I have always found plain heel caps to be very boring.

At the end of a build I have so many scraps of wood left over from the purfling, binding, etc, that many years ago I started to glue these together for my heel caps, very often using the self-same pieces from my back strip inlay detail.

On occasion the heel cap forms a subtle but critical part of the story told with the rosette, headstock and fingerboard.
